This major work is the Christmas story from a more human perspective. The text is a combination of freely composed passages along with scripture passages adapted to fit the piece, all done by the composer.
The “Lullaby” is also available in a separate version without brass/percussion and can be performed alone.
“And the Word Became Flesh” has also been rescored for full orchestra and has been slightly shortened (this version can be heard on the “Christmas at Luther 2014” recording available from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa).

The Lullaby is moderately easy, the rest is moderately difficult. The Lullaby is a simple but beautiful and emotional Christmas piece. It takes a good soprano soloist, but choral parts are easy.
The score below is the version with strings. Also available with keyboard-only accomp., or brass/keyboard accomp. The choral parts are the same in all versions.
